Emerald Care Instructions:

Emerald is harder than Quartz or Tourmaline but less hard than Diamond and Sapphire. Emerald needs to be taken care as it might get damaged if dropped or dumped hard. Emerald fissures also occur after cutting and polishing which is masked with a colorless oil and resin to reduce the visibility of those fissures. So take care before buying an Emerald gemstone.


How to take care of Emerald:

  • Emerald should not be exposed to high temperature or ultrasonic cleaners or steamers as a change in temperature and high heat leads to fine cracks.
  • A strong blow or a hard knock may crack the gemstone so remove it while working with heavy tools and washing or cleaning dishes.
  • Remove the Emerald jewelry while working with soap as it attracts grease and soap. This accumulates substances of the gemstone and causes to lose their brilliance.
  • Never resize or repair Emerald from ordinary jewelry shop as it might cause extensive damage to the precious gemstone.
  • Never use acetone to clean the gemstone as it might damage the gemstone and the setting.

Cleaning the Emerald:

  • Clean the Emerald Jewelry in normal room temperature with lukewarm water and a soft brush. Move the brush on all the side of the gemstone to remove the accumulations of dirt and grease. After cleaning dry it with a soft polishing cloth. You can use normal soap or hand soap.

Storing the Emerald:

  • Keep the Emerald jewelry in a separate velvet boxes with individual compartments or inside cotton bags in a jewelry box.
